The Indian wave started on February 19th.
This is a very quick post to hammer home the fact that data presentation matters. We need our leaders to listen to science and after that we need the people to listen to the leaders. This pandemic isn’t done with us yet.
I wasn’t tuned into the numbers of new cases happening in India, but anyone who was could have spotted this wave in early March. It looked like it actually started country wide back on February 19th.
The plots above compare and contrast a linear and logarithmic plot of the number of new COVID-19 cases in India. I continual try to hammer home that COVID-19 cases need to be presented on a logarithmic plot so that its natural behavior shows up as a straight line. That straight(ish) line up started on February 19th. Early March is when you have to react. The same thing happened in New York, LA, and Italy.
It’s sickening to me to be back at the place I was a year ago watching people underestimate the power of exponential growth and the power of a virus. You’ve got to stay on your toes. You don’t want to be paranoid but you want to be prepared and watching for trouble.
