About us

Peter Khoury - I am the founder of The Phoenix Data Project and this website and the project is a reflection of the eclectic person that I am. I am a data scientist who loves numbers and loves the display of information. When I look at data I’m always asking myself what story does this data have to tell me and then I set about trying to tease a good interpretation out of the data set.

How I got here - I went to the North Carolina School of Science and Math for high school, Cornell undergrad and I received my PhD from UC Berkeley in 1998 with a thesis in non-linear dynamics. I went into financial analytics but left that field after I found that the analysis was boring and predictable and furthermore I felt like I was just making fat cats fatter and wasn’t contributing anything of value to the world. Since then I’ve been in the wireless industry which I find much more interesting and impactful. I currently work for Ruckus Networks which is a part of Commscope.

My blessings - I am blessed with a wonderful family and have two daughters who are as different as night and day (I personally think they would make an awesome team but they haven’t realized that yet.). Our family has two tuxedo kittens which we just recently got after losing our cat Maxwell who had been with us for 15 years. These kittens have been a wonderful distraction during these times. I am further blessed with a wonderful community which is as eclectic as I am. Their support and understand has been crucial to this project. During my mid-life crisis I purchased a used kayak and a new paddle board. I store both at City Kayak down located at pier 40. Getting out on the water centers me.

Adrian Cotter my co-collaborator plugs many of my weaknesses. Full time web alchemist for the Sierra Club, otherwise jack of some trades and master of few. More about him here.
